Really enjoying this western romp. Not too sure if the on-going spat between Maria and the MC doesn't seem a little too contrived, at least nothing that banging the two heads together wouldn't have resolved. Love Cathy, a real Annie Oakley character.
I guess I jumped the gun about hanging. Still think he ought to be Hung. On another note Lady in Red Part4? Is it under another name, did you give up on it? Inquiring minds want to know...
Excellent chapter 2. You wouldn't know how much I love Westerns. This is a rare treat! Thank you. 5 BIG FAT SHINY STARS!
Outstanding attention to detail! Awesome read. Let’s keep this party going! Finn
Outstanding story! Love the tension that is growing with Maria and Emerson. Also that Cathy seems to be getting along with Tom.
Just kidding. He is one of those over achievers that make us mere mortal humans crazy. A really great story! 5*s
Brings back memories for this old cowboy--Oregon, Kansas Oklahoma & west Texas...no gunfights tho, that came in Marines.....
... as much this time as I did the first time (when it was new)
'feint' is something a boxer or swordsman does 'faint' means to lose consciousness
'undo' means untie a knot, 'undue' means excessive.
Maria will be good for Emerson. If the heart trembles, is there any doubt left?
I think this is a great story but i like cathy because she is more down to earth and is a better match for emmerson than a self centered spoiled brat like maria.I like blonds better to.I hevent seen anything you have written on this site for awhile I hope you are ok if so keep up the great work.I have read all of your stories more than once. ron from wva
I very seldom comment I prefer to just vote since I can't write worth a damn.
This is the 3rd go around on this story and it still is as good and any western I have ever read. HDK is one of my favorite authors and I can't find any fault in this submission. The last thing I will do is criticize an author's work. Anybody who is willing to put out on the net anything to be criticized by everybody whether they are qualified or not should be respected. I have found many books written by very great authors in which there are mistakes, paid good money for them however I did not blame the author or the those whose job was to fix the errors for the errors. It could have been the printers or others. I just enjoy the efforts put forth by those who are willing to submit in such an environment.
Great job HDK!!! Love your work and looking forward to your next submission.

annonymous wants "more authenic" dialog, era specific. I ask how would anyone know? Standard American became possible only with TV. Pre-Civil War westerners were often immigrants who spoke as well as they could. Few had benefit of a thorough education. Educated easterners had less reason to "Go west, young man"
Speaking as moral players in their time, author has given voice to people whom I like and admire in a virtual sense. If I want vernacular of a language that I have personal knowledge of, I'll read Elmore Leonard. Again
This story is light melodrama, Black Hats are going down! Our Hero is the smartest, toughest, prettiest, most honorable supra-mensch that we mere mortals could ever hope to wear the skin of, virtually. And, he's gonna get the girl, uh huh.
So excellently crafted ... so different from LW tales ... what a talent
enjoying the story. could have been worded a little more to reflect how people spoke back in the day. still very enjoyable.
Haven't read a story of yours I didn't like, but by golly this is pure professionalism at play. This is your true callin'. Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' Keep Them Dogies Movin'!
Hey.. respected author...I just wanted to know if I wanna make movie would you give me the copyright to do so...?
What a story that you write...Boy..
Why did you stop writing...Please continue...Western Genre.
I also have been a fan of westerns and have read many. I'm only about half way through this story so far but have to tell you that you have caught my attention as only L'Amour has in the past.
Continue on and please, please publish.
How can you have an exciting trail drive without any wives a cheating?
What kind of a story is this besides excellant or better - maybe - kinda - yep.
With High Regard - for a Story Teller
Okay. Maybe it's sorta good. Maybe. Kinda. One question though. Why does the main character swivel his hips when he walks? An not quiiiiiite enough drawl when he speak. But if I heal "Well, Pilgrim", I'm sitting my pants!"

tu amigo,

Have always liked your erotic stories, and make it a point to look for your work. Somehow, I missed Chap 1 yesterday, but picked up on Chap 2 this morning. Read both chapters in one setting.
I have always been a huge fan of the western genre, and I think you have hit the jackpot. Great characters, great plot, and good action.
Am waiting with bated breath, for the remaining chapters.

I have greatly enjoyed all of your works, but this time you have surpassed your self. This is a great story with fantastic character development.
another well written and enjoyable story...can't wait to read on. Thanks again for sharing it with us. respectfully fan in Texas naynay
HDK:
This is as good as it gets. Don't falter old son and keep it coming. Thank You. Ronnie W.
This is a very good story! I really enjoy it.
Ah, I knew he would be good with his colts. He'll have to practice a little. Lang should have been down in one shot. Sounds like Emerson will be a bitch with knives, too.
Somehow I get the impression that Hatko will one notch below Emerson in expertise in fighting; something that will be really handy on the drive!!
Looking forward to the next chapter!
A really well written story. Hatco and everything he said is straight out of L'Amour.
I gotta be honest though... I like Cathy much more than Maria!
I thought the gunfight was particularly well done... very realistic.
Looking forward to the trail drive!

HDK,
Well done, can't wait for the next edition. It reminds me of being a kid and going to the Sat. morning/afternoon serials.
