beach conversations
fueled by lime and vodka
turn too quickly
to religious convictions

i sit, aghast
silent head bowed
looking at my toes
curled in sand

heated snips
of who knows what
and what do you do
i do, how do you?

please, please, please!
impassioned preachers
popping off

stop.

up i wander
up the cliff
up the dunes
to take a piss

head swirling to clear
i left their sandy pew
the pulpits poisoned
with promises and
pleasantries, to

hide among the sea grass
squat and laugh
my bobbing head
a match

i could not trust my silence
to hold, it’s tongue vapors
flames licking too
close to slipping

the grass my fellows
dance with me
we, dull in our rhythms
tuned to flow naturally

let the wind pull us
let us wave in
unison, we
silent congregation
of like, mind floating

in arcs through me
let us shine in our
mediocrity, free

we

emerge and see stunning
views to points reaching
into sea, waves
lapping and crashing
beyond my grasp

fingers laced in yellow
grass, eyes wide
i smile toward
lighthouse, beaming

~~

An evening at the beach, fun with friends. Soon with a buzz on, thoughts turn to the mystical and reasoned speech becomes chaotic.
