The candle burned brightly as she wrote,
Unaware that the flickering light
Was caught, and reflected upon her face.

The tears fall silently
Down her cheek as they dropped
Upon the paper below, smearing and
Splattering the fresh ink.

Her fingers shook and quivered
As the words she delivered
Making the break that had to be
Pain-ridden so he would see
It was the end.

She had loved him from
Deep within her very core
She had loved him, totally,
But now she could no more.

Reading it one more time,
By the dancing candlelight;
The flame sputtered bright
As it caught each tear
Just right.

Shaking her head,
Heart filled with dread,
She wrote the
Final few words,

Good-bye my dearest.
