so i took the leap you sang of
and for a moment i hung frozen in the wind
like the split second of time it takes to register a thought.

i am falling, i am falling!

and i did not fly.
i did nothing but smash upon the rocks.

is there beauty to the blood pattern of splatter?
is there joy to be found in split skin torn ragged?

perhaps i did not harness the wind,
my wings stunted, my span too small.
perhaps,

and i will think on that as i climb the crumbled cliff again
to hurl myself off.
