i listen in on boardroom brawls
facts and figures, papers strewn
haggled over lines drawing on
battlefields of glossy tables

my, oh my mind scrambles
with numbers misunderstood
swirling behind closed eyes
disappearing behind a smile

and that smile, a cheshire grin
i have no desire to wage such wars,
such a bore, not of my world

snuggled in bed, hearing him pace
knowing the face he makes

i see myself strewn across waxed wood
sectioned off, haggled over goods
bidders battling for desirable tidbits
imagination running wild until

SOLD! I am pleased
and so purr when he comes,
to claim his property

the bit he owns of me swirling
before his wanting eyes
he, the highest bidder in our battle
winning a piece of me

my disappearing fades to smiles
misunderstood figures, battles
glossed over lines drawn on skin
victorious or in defeat he celebrates
the good fight in me

while i am strewn across the world
fractured, sectioned off bits
misunderstood numbers disappearing
behind the waxed smile, glossing
over behind closed eyes
