Father and child work silently
constructing paper hearts.
Sneaking bites of chocolate from
Mother’s gift.

Cards and jewels purchased with
love and care lie in a box, bound with a string
tied by a slim finger covered in paint.

Little feet move closer to an unsuspecting figure,
sleeping, softly snoring
on a billow of feathers covered in a casing
of silk and linen.
Tiny hands holding a larger one
more masculine, stronger, firmer.

Gently gliding now, tip toeing as they silently stalk the female
crashed from a night of whimpers and tears
ghosts in dreams that haunted the cherub
that now takes a moment to stand in awe
at the beauty of their Queen.

A soft kiss, a whispered “love you”
Are passed from one lip to another’s ears
and then a stir of the covers
and the secret is out
exposed and welcomed.

Valentine kisses melt hearts and
brings giggles to a young child
in a happy home.
