What’s eating you up
again, she asked.
Her eyes wandering on me,
where we could have been loving.
I looked at the rest of my food,
no longer hungry,
then at her turned head.
Yet, I almost missed her upturned hand,
still resting on the table,
matching hers with mine.

An incredible attention to the details that makes the moment you describe so special. It is now clearer to me why your sleep prose poem worked for me, your attention to the right details.
