Relearning the smooth curves
stumbling over road blocks;
directions taken hastily
never able to read my own writing.

Mind bends around steep turns.
Thoughts as hard to grip
as the asphalt’s shiny surface.
Adrenaline pumps the core.

Instincts kick in, senses overheat
fluids pool in excess;
gears shift to expose need.
Instruments manipulated precisely.

Speed bumps race over skin
as the thrill of the chase intensifies.
Faster, faster, please
drag me straight to the finish line.

Inherent speed demon can’t slow down,
caught up in the roar of thunder.
Body taunt, alert, responsive
white flag in sight.
