Ice tinkles
as I lift my glass.
Gin swirls like
hot fire in my mouth.

With the light’s out,
I can see the shadows
the moon presses
through the window.

I see silhouettes
of clandestine moments
in my distant past.

The room is quiet.
I can feel my heart
pulse the alcohol
through my veins.

Nights are long,
and thankfully
my life is numbed.

A darkened room.
