shades of blue and
shades of black
hidden under make-up and
a bad hair-cut

open wounds bound together
with cheap bandages
rubbing off with each labored
step.  fabric of my clothes
sticking to the oozing wound

scars making weird designs in
the skin as new and old
bleed together
ooops! i already opened that
part up!!

shades of blue and
shades of black
mixing well with the bad lighting
and the smokey haze of myriad
clubs and bars

fake smiles and hurried glances
go unnoticed by inebriated
hangers-on and all my
stuttering responses drowned out
by a lazy back beat

one big gaping, puss-ridden wound
maybe i can rot from view
no one would notice the smell
olfactory burnt out by a constant
overload of the senses

shades of blue and
shades of black
soon they will fade to yellow
and then the canvas will be back
to normal
waiting for another imprint of
your hate
