Never
have my lips been first to kiss;
my hands not wandered
places yours had not been,
I give you pleasure
and take mine in your response.
I have allowed you your selfishness
and denied my own.

I have never
required more than you could give.
I have never
forced myself upon you.
I have always wanted
your love to be freely given,
your consent to be explicit,
your permissions actually spoken.

I have
given more than taken,
accepted every limit,
been patient,
been quiet and calm.

All you can do
is what you do now;
for what pain
can you cause
that could wound me deeper?
What knife
could twist more in my side?
Strike me with the curse of your hate;
it could hardly hurt worse
than the arrow of your apathy.
