A Man and A Woman - I
~Marriage~

When first they met
How the sparks flew;
He was so thoughtful
Their relationship grew.

Wanting perfection
They took their time;
She was so cautious
Til asked, "Please be mine."

Their magic day came
Walked down their dream aisle;
His for free nookie
And hers for a child.

And with their I Do's
Get their wishes delight;
As they are pronounced
First child and wife.

Oh no!!!

Having just recently gotten married, I know this isn't us. We're both like kids with a new toy --- each other!!! But I know of a few people that fit this too well.

Love your irony here!

There they are, happy as can be, till the reality of what they really got sinks in. Just love that last line -- it says so much about them & you (in a good way for you).

Amusing and sad

You've said it so well here with so few words, of a couple's unrealistic expectations and missed communications. Patricia

Becoming a Mother without even trying

Leon, I see you saw what was happening before I did, to my everlasting regret. Some of them want nookie (as you put it) and a Mother, all rolled into one convenient package. So here's a thought--when most women marry do they immediately become single Moms? Don't answer! CP

"I do"...

believe you have created the footings to a fascinating series based on more factual than fictional stages of marriage. Beginning with the courtship and all its seemingly effortless sweetheart magic, it evolves into the beginning of the end~ the Wedding Day. With all of its ulterior motives from both sides walking down the aisle with them too, you have penned in the final line the sharp reality that will, I suspect in later chapters of this series, pierce the bubble.

You are still a great commentator, Leon and now...a really great storyteller through poetry form. I have fallen head over heels in love... with this series!<smile>

Very impressed Vixxx

So very true

Hi Leon, I enjoyed your poem very much! This is so very true because we as men sometimes go into marriage with completely childlike and unrealistic expectations. You said it well. Thanks for sharing!

Now I see

I stumbled in late and started from the wrong end. What a brilliant series. A story that has played itself out innumerable times.

WOW ......

Now there's a take

on "reality"

No TV needed for this one,

and so they will always be

first child and wife,

for neither wed for

the right reasons..

I am assuming this will

turn into a series

that ends with ...

Divorce ?

Very smooth writing my friend,

VERY SMOOTH ...

last line.......{{{{PUNCH}}}}

Ending was mysterious and disappointing.
